Our theatre students have begun the task of building the arts program for Gifted and Talented Theatre. I am in my second year teaching at this high school in Louisiana. Presently our school lacks the funding for enrichment supplies; we have theatre seats and minimal lighting instruments but need so much more.

To the delight of my students, I often bring supplies from my personal collection to resemble a working theatre environment. After my first year of teaching, I have found a project that speaks strongly to my group of artists who care about student-produced theatre. We named it the “MUST SEE YOU” Production which emphasizes a connection of artists with their audiences. Regardless of sex, color, or the language in which these stories are set, human beings have faced the same decisions, choices, and challenges in life. I would love to share an incredible creation of artistic visions and personal expressions for each and every one of them, but unfortunately the monies are not available for most of the supplies.

The performance will be free for families, the high school community, and the surrounding area of Arts supporters. The projects require students to use the materials we have in our theatre to design a strong showcase of personal statements.

Our limited funding must go towards basic supplies such as journals, art supplies, and theatre books. My students are talented, creative, determined, and they deserve the chance to work on what would be a meaningful experience. Some of my students are interested in approaching performance methods, technical light design, education in the arts, and are considering furthering their theatre studies in college.

Please help in this endeavor to change a student life and bring something positive and fun to our classroom.
Comments
Our theatre is being renovated out of the motivation from the Talent theatre students. The students spend their evenings and weekends finding ways to improve our environment at the school. We believe our performances and invitations to get involved in the Gifted/Talented Theatre program will inspire other students to continue education after high school. Any assistance to build our program is more than appreciated. We rely on our hard work and the generosity of strangers.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
The tools these students receive apply to becoming a practicing artist, set (sound, lighting) designer, stage manager, art director, production manager, interior designer, book illustrator, photographer, newspaper layout artist, film director, teacher, writer, or graphic designer. The students integrate research from History classes; as they also practice oratory speech topics from Literature. This project enables students to stretch their boundaries and collaborate in social groups. Please support the arts in Louisiana, it is the foundation of many of these students' dreams.
Follow-Up
The students will film and broadcast selections of scenes on the student theatre website, write "thank you's" and invitations to supporters, continue to grow and expand technology knowledge in our education system, while training students to properly use software/equipment to prepare them for college.
