My Add on Sentence Story.

Students will be given a journal of paper or create a personal file on the computer to begin their weekly story. Students will be asked to write or type a sentence of their choice each day. Students may use a digital camera to take a picture of an item in their sentence and attach it to each day's work. At the end of each week, students will be asked to share their 5 sentence story with classmates. Due to diverse learners in each class, pictures from Clip Art may be substituted for things in the story, especially if a child is a struggling writer.

This lesson will promote higher-level thinking skills and will demonstrate student's ability to interpret, evaluate and order information. This lesson will allow for brainstorming, discussion and critical thinking skills. This assignment can be taught in guided group learning or as independent work. Most of all, children will be excited about writing and using technology to be incorporated into making a short story.

When the students are sharing weekly stories with classmates, they can be videotaped or audiotaped to keep a collection of their work. At the end of the year, this information can be shared with future teachers to evaluate progress and determine writing and reading level. It will be sent home on the last day of school for a wonderful present for parents!
