Day 1 - Stduents brainstorm and share out what they ALREADY know about CA Indians. - Teacher records the students ideas on chart paper. - Then students share out what they WANT to know about CA Indians. -Teacher records the students ideas on chart paper.
Day 2 -Then, review the word "regions" and the 4 regions of CA. (As previously taught in lesson before)
-Discuss "cooperation" and what it looks and sounds like to reinforce working together in a small group in a small way.
-Teacher models determining importance when reading text for students.
Day 3-4 -Students are broken up into 4 equal groups and are assigned a region to research and study.
-Teacher passes out graphic organizer for students using Social Studies book covering topics such as: -Art and Music -Tools -Food -Home/Shelter -Values & Beliefs -Ceremonies & Traditions -Folklore
Day 5-6 -Students transfer information to poster paper, and create visuals and props for their presentation. -Teacher encourages creativity and role-play to show their classmates life of CA Indians.
Day 7 -Students work on presenting their gathered information to present to the class. -The rest of the students take notes while the group presents. -Teacher video records all presentations for the students to have a copy of all presentations, learning about CA Indians in all 4 regions.
