Concepts to Teach: This summer we will be emphasizing traveling in the community while focusing on one skill each individual student needs in order to gain independence.

Traveling is important for everyone. How does traveling relate to our immediate school community and our own communities as well? Why is traveling important and what are the different systems a person can use to travel? How does traveling affect our quality of life?

Use the Internet to continue researching traveling, neighborhoods, community, etc.
Research own community online then school community
How many hours or minutes to get to point A to point B
How many subways/recognizing lines, following signs

Continue with journal reflections (CCS ELA). Ideas for reflections include
Take picture of somewhere you went, like, want to go, etc

Timeline
Make community collage with pictures and community artifacts

Brooklyn landmarks
Brooklyn neighborhoods

Using Smartboard label landmarks students have visited and create a photo gallery of pictures they've taken along the way.
