Read Aloud: I Went Walking by Sue Williams
The teacher will read the text from a big book and the student will echo read the story. After a discussion of what the little girl saw, the teacher will guide the students in a walk around the school building. Using a digital point and shoot camera the teacher will take pictures of what the children saw. When the class returns to the classroom, the teacher will give the children papers with the text:
I went walking. What did I see?
I saw ______________________________ looking at me.
The children will complete the story frame and illustrate with a picture.
The teacher will then add the digital pictures to the text to make a class book. Clip art will be added to make the story more readable for the children.
The book will be printed and bound to be read in our classroom as well as sent home each night for a different family to read.
As a follow-up, the teacher could use clip art to make flashcards of all the animals in the story for the children to practice learning the animal names and color words.

I have my own point and shoot camera. What I really need is good clip art to provide visuals for my students. |
