The Los Angeles Computer Society (LACS), www.lacspc.org, recently planned a Field Trip to The International Print Museum, Torrance, CA for Saturday, March 1st, 2014 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. Mr. Stephenson, Vice-President and Member of LACS, and Science Teacher at Thomas Jefferson High made his students aware of this pending event and asked students to obtain permission from their parents to attend the field trip. Thus far, seventeen (17) students have signed up to go, and another fifteen (15) students have expressed their interest in attending. Also, Mr. Roman, Graphic Arts Teacher, Thomas Jefferson High School, is also planning on inviting his students to attend. In addition, students from The Venice High School Computer Club have also expressed an interest in attending the field trip. We therefore expect between thirty (30) and forty (40) students to attend the field trip and therefore seek support to help defray the costs of students attending this event:

Budget:
(1) Cost of Tickets to enter the Museum: $10.00 per student X 40 = $400.00
(2) Transportation by bus: = $500.00
(3) Miscellaneous Expenses (Publicity, Fliers): = $100.00
(4) Total: = $1000.00

Thus far, we have received a pledge of $100.00 from LACS to support students in purchasing tickets for the field trip. We therefore seek an additional $900.00 to ensure that as many students who would like to go, that they have the opportunity to attend.

In conclusion, there are several benefits that students will gain from this experience. They will be exposed to learning many details involved in the printing process. They will understand how their books, magazines and other reading materials are designed, and how they aid in their understanding of the power of writing: “The pen is certainly mightier that the sword.” Students will be asked to write a one-page summary of their understanding upon returning to the classroom.
